Katie McCarthy brings over seventeen years of teaching experience to her classes at Lee Academy. As a young girl Katie trained in all areas of dance including classical ballet (RAD Elementary), tap (Les Griffith), jazz, contemporary and lyrical. At the age of fourteen, Katie began her vocal training with the late Gordon Wilcock, a member of Opera Australia. Katie continued studying voice for over a decade with a variety of tutors including Darren Mapes, Margi De Ferranti and Lisa Callingham to name three.
At the age of twenty-one, Katie landed the role of Maureen O’Keefe in Shout the musical and toured the country for a year. Katie was also chosen to be the first cover to the lead role of Marianne O’Keefe and performed the principal part numerous times.
Katie’s other professional theatre credits include What The World Needs Now (Theatre Royal) Three Winters Green (Stables Theatre) Hair (national tour) Bye Bye Birdie (Production Company) and South Pacific (Theatre Royal).
Katie has filmed television commercials for Motorola and KFC, appeared on the Footy Show (Channel 9) Roy and HG (Channel 7) Breakers (Channel 10) and danced alongside the Tap Dogs in the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics.
Katie specialises in musical theatre and private vocal training but teaches everything from tap to broadway jazz.
